Best Hemorrhoids Treatment
and Healing Foods for Hemorrhoids

On this page we'll discuss what the best hemorrhoids treatment is and if it's possible to get rid of them. But if you want to know more about the causes of hemorrhoids (or piles), please follow the link.

You'll be relieved to know that in most cases it is possible to reverse the problem provided you manage to alter your diet successfully. But as soon as you revert to your old habits, it won't take long for the problem to come back.

As far as we know, hemorrhoids are unique to human beings. No other creature develops this problem. Not something to be proud of, I might add. This can be an indication that our dietary and nutritional habits probably play a greater role in this disorder than anything else.

It's also noteworthy the fact that hemorrhoids are rare in cultures with high-fibre, unrefined diets. So considering that the foods mentioned in this article are very easy to find why not try to include as many as you can in your best hemorrhoids treatment?

So what is the best hemorrhoids treatment?

fibre-rich foods are essential to prevent hemorroids

The reason so many people in the Western world have hemorrhoids is that the average fibre consumption is 12 to 15 grams per day, a lot less than the Daily Value of 25 grams, says Marvin Schuster, MD, founder of the Marvin M. Schuster Digestive and Motility Disorders Center at John Hopkins Bayview Medical Center in Baltimore.

Fibre is important because it adds bulk and weight to stool by absorbing water, helping them to pass more easily. Studies have shown, in fact, that people who eat a lot of fibre-rich foods have considerably fewer hemorrhoids than those who eat less fibre.

It's not difficult to get more fibre in your diet, Dr Schuster adds. Eating legumes and the recommended 2 1/2 to 3 cups of vegetables, 1 1/2 to 2 cups of fruits and 3 to 4 ounces/75-100 g. of whole-grain products, such as oatmeal, brown rice, or 100% whole-wheat bread, will provide all the fibre your digestive tract needs to work smoothly. So make sure you include these in your best hemorrhoids treatment.

Another great way to add fibre to your diet is with flaxseeds. Not only will you get the benefits of the fibre content in these crunchy little seeds, you'll get the omega-3 fatty acids they supply as well.

A high-fibre diet with plenty of fluids - water, fruit juices and herbal teas - helps prevent hemorrhoids as fibre and fluids soften the stool so they pass through easily. A diet of this kind can actually allow hemorrhoids to heal.

No straining with bowel movements means less pressure on the blood vessels near the anus.

So the best hemorrhoids treatment must include plenty of fruits, whole grains, legumes and vegetables, especially those containing the most fibre: asparagus, Brussels sprouts, cabbage, carrots, cauliflower, corn, peas, kale and parsnips.

Eating a high-fibre breakfast cereal significantly increases your fibre intake.

Other suggestions to include in your best hemorrhoids treatment:

Use psyllium seeds husk

Psyllium seeds contain mucilage, a fibre that adds bulk and water to your stools, which makes them softer and easier to pass. They regulate bowel function and can be beneficial for both diarrhea and constipation. Psyllium needs lots of water to work, so be sure to drink plenty if you decide to try it.

Because they're not a laxative they don't cause harmful dependency and can be added to the best hemorrhoids treatment without any problems.

Gradually build up to 1 teaspoon of psyllium with each meal to avoid gas and cramping from sudden introduction of fibre. As your dietary fibre increases, you'll probably find you no longer need to take psyllium seeds.

Try wheat or corn bran

Wheat and corn bran can be used in the same way as psyllium seeds to add bulk and moisture to stool, allowing them to pass more easily.

Take 1 teaspoon with meals or eat a high-fibre breakfast cereal.

I keep repeating this, but it's important: Be sure to add fibre to your diet slowly to prevent any gas or discomfort.

If you're allergic/intolerant to wheat or corn, try rice or oat bran, they often produce the same results.

Fibre is helpful even when hemorrhoids require medical treatment. Danish researchers studied 92 people whose hemorrhoids were treated with a procedure called rubber band ligation (in which rubber bands are used to cut off circulation to the hemorrhoid) every 2 weeks for up to 10 weeks.

Some of the patients were instructed to eat bran twice daily, while others received standard care. Not only did the bran eaters need fewer treatments to heal their hemorrhoids, but only 15% of them experienced recurrences compared to 45% of their no-bran counterparts.

We might take a moment to reflect, why do you need to wait to make changes in your diet until you need these painful procedures? Is it not much better to prevent the problem from getting worse by adopting the best hemorrhoids treatment discussed here?

Drink more water

drink at least 6 to 8 glasses of water daily

Eating high-fibre foods without drinking enough fluids has the opposite effect on the stools. They become dry and difficult to pass, causing even more problems with hemorrhoids.

Water does more than aid digestion. Because it's absorbed by the stools, it makes them heavier and easier to pass.

The best hemorrhoids treatment has to include at least the recommended amount of liquid, which is six to eight glasses a day. Don't drink it all at once but spaced out throughout the day.

Take probiotics

Poor bowel flora causes the digestive system to move sluggishly. Use of antibiotics, hormones or steroid drugs, high-stress levels, and poor diet can cause an imbalance of intestinal flora.

Take acidophilus and bifidobacteria two to three times daily to help regulate peristalsis. If you're able to digest yoghurt, it also has a normalising effect on the bowel and can be helpful for either constipation or diarrhea.

Have a look at Pro-Otic, which is one of the first probiotic formulations to deliver a fuller spectrum of probiotic bacteria in a form that has been demonstrated to survive our stomach acids and can also adhere to the intestinal lining and colonise particularly efficiently.

Address magnesium deficiency

Most of us who live in the Western world have a widespread magnesium deficiency that contributes to constipation and a host of other problems.

According to recent studies, we lose 75% of magnesium during food processing and 40% of us fail to meet the RDA levels for daily magnesium intake.

One of the many functions of magnesium is the proper relaxation of muscles, and peristalsis is a rhythmic muscle relaxation and contraction. When magnesium deficiency or calcium-magnesium imbalance is present, poor bowel tone can occur. On the other end, too much magnesium can cause diarrhea. Take 400 to 500 milligrams daily.

Find out why not all magnesium is the same.

Explore possible lactose intolerance

People with lactose intolerance can become constipated from dairy products.

Examine hormone changes

Women often notice their bowel habits change at various times in their menstrual cycle. Pregnancy is a common but temporary cause of constipation and hemorrhoids. An under active thyroid can also cause constipation.

Take vitamin C

Vitamin C can be used to help soften stool but it can also protect against free radicals that can weaken blood vessels.

It also promotes healing by reducing inflammation, helping build connective tissue around the hemorrhoids and improving the overall tone of veins, so is essential in the best hemorrhoids treatment. The amount needed depends on your individual needs.

A vitamin C flush can help you determine your daily need for vitamin C.

You will need a powdered form of ascorbic acid to help you get the right dosage.

Vitamin C Flush

Take 1/2 teaspoon, about 2,500 milligrams, of vitamin C powder, mix with water or fruit juice and drink. Repeat in fifteen minutes.

Keep taking 1/2 teaspoon of ascorbate every fifteen minutes until you have watery diarrhea. Do not stop with just gas. Adding vitamin C rapidly helps prevent bloating and cramping.

Stop once you get diarrhea. Keep track of how much vitamin C you take. This will help you determine your optimal dosage.

Take daily 1/2 to 3/4 of the amount it takes to produce a vitamin C flush in divided amounts. Over time your needs may increase but then substantially decrease as repair occurs.

Among the foods rich in vitamin C here's just a few that you must try to include in the best hemorrhoids treatment:

Artichokes, asparagus, berries, broccoli, Brussels sprouts, cranberries, citrus fruits, kiwifruit, pineapple, peppers, rhubarb, strawberries, sweet potatoes, tomatoes.

Aloe Vera juice

Aloe juice is not just a natural laxative, but helps regulate the intestinal contractions. Several studies have also shown Aloe Vera to be highly effective in reducing inflammation, improve digestion and regulate bowel flora, hence very effective in the treatment of hemorrhoids.

Read why Golden Aloe Vera is my best choice.

Include zinc

Zinc is an infection-fighting mineral that's important for the healing process and can help reduce irritation while hemorrhoid tissue mends.

Foods high in zinc include: avocados, beans, buckwheat, bulgar wheat, lentils, oysters, shellfish, wheat germ.
